Environmental & conservation projects using
NZ native plants. Turn that wet area into a
wildfowl sanctuary.

Planting
since 1980

Farming and lifestyle-block planting projects.

Ray Richards has been supplying plans and plants to farms and lifestyle blocks since the early 1980’s. Beginning in 1982 with pine and eucalyptus plantings for shelter and forestry. By 1989 he and the staff were mostly utilising native species for shelter and revegetation projects. Since 1998 they have planted many sites of wetland, riparian, and native bush restoration.

Native plantings for: erosion control, effluent fields, riparian reserves, revegetation, shelter-belts, wetlands & wildfowl habitats. We also often have lines of natives and shelter-belt plants available, as surplus stock. We collect seed from the watershed of the Ruahine and Tararua ranges. We have also enhanced native preservation projects for DOC at Mahia, Taumarunui and south Wairarapa.

Farm & L-style block shelter using exotic species also. Natives or exotic species for tough rugged, primary shelter which remain disease-free and are easy to manage. Every situation has its own peculiar requirements and has a particular species which will match the need. We can help you make the right decision.

Supply and sowing of native seed for slip sites.

Here is a common example of a New Zealand forest remnant found on many farms. After the burn-offs applied 80 to 140 years ago, these areas were only partially destroyed due to high moisture levels in the ground where the fire couldn't complete the total destruction intended. These remnants have struggled for years prior to cessation of grazing. Notice the good health of these 'canopy' saplings, but very little natural regeneration of new plants. This is due to the long rank grass under which there is no light for seed germination.

We successfully create the right environment and choose the right nurse-crop species to extend and enhance such native bush remnants.
